Dial Assist helps an iPhone determine the appropriate local or international prefix when you place a call. If you prefer to dial numbers exactly as entered, open Settings > Apps > Phone, scroll down to Dial Assist, and turn the setting off.
Turn off Dial Assist
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Apps.
- Tap Phone.
- Scroll to Dial Assist.
- Turn the switch off.
You can return to the same menu and enable Dial Assist again at any time.
What Dial Assist actually changes
The feature is intended to help with telephone-number prefixes, particularly when local and international dialing formats differ. Turning it off does not block calls or change your cellular plan. It simply stops the iPhone from automatically determining a prefix for numbers you dial.
When turning it off can be useful
You might prefer Dial Assist off if you already store contacts with complete country codes, if automatic prefix handling is producing unexpected results, or if you are troubleshooting calls while traveling. If calls still fail after disabling it, verify the saved number and country code and check with your carrier for the required dialing format.
